Wooden Hand-turned Bowl #107

$ 70.00

This bowl is hard to part with! I was delighted to find a whole Black Walnut log in the truckload of firewood that was delivered! Oh, Joy! There was no way it was going into the woodstove! As this bowl took shape on the lathe, interesting bark inclusions and little ‘imperfections’ appeared.

Was I dismayed? Not at all. I had a great opportunity to add some mineral inlay. I chose a nice turquoise to fill the holes adding wonderful accents to one of my favorite woods. When finish was applied, some wonderful grain pattern was enriched on the end grain sides.

Yep, I will really hate to see this one go, but my loss will be your gain!

This “ogee-shaped” Black Walnut bowl is 3 1/4 inches tall and 7 inches wide with a small bead turned into the base. The finish is a penetrating low-gloss Tung oil finish. I choose this finish instead of polyurethane to protect the wood yet not hide the grain and character of the wood under several coats of a poly-‘plastic’. It is important to me to see and feel the warmth and texture of the wood.
